UCLA
Pathway at UCLA Extension is a new, academic-based program specially designed for young adults with intellectual disabilities between the ages of 18-25 years. The goal is to help students become self-advocates and make choices about their own futures by providing the life and job skills training necessary to lead independent, happy, and fulfilling lives. It is a two year program, started in Fall 2007, that provides a blend of educational, social and vocational experiences.
Circle of Friends is proud to be a part of the Pathway experience. Research shows the importance of using appropriate social skills to be successful in life. Circle of Friends will strengthen Pathway students' road to independent living by developing friendships with UCLA students.
Each university student will be trained to reinforce and improve social language skills as they meet weekly with Pathway participants both on campus and within their community. Circle of Friends will bring the understanding and acceptance of differences through a program of inclusion. It will also result in a richness of new skills for all participants. |
